Keep your chin up!

그대로 해석하면 ‘턱을 올려’ 정도로 된다. 이 표현은 ‘힘내’, ‘기죽지 마’, ‘포기하지 말고 계속하면, 넌 해낼 수 있을거야’ 등의 의미를 내포하고 있다.

어떤 일이 잘 안되거나 낙담하게 되었을 때, 사람들은 보통 고개를 떨군다. 그런 친구나 가족에게, 진심어린 위로와 함께 이 표현이 종종 쓰인다.

새해 시작부터 잘 안되는 일이 있다면, 낙담하지 말자. 턱을 올려세우고, 당당하게 조금만 더 힘 내어 보자.

ex)

Jane, don’t worry too much. I think you can do it and you just need a little more time. Keep your chin up!  (제인, 너무 걱정하지마. 넌 할 수 있어. 단지 조금 시간이 더 필요할 뿐이야. 힘내!)
