The 31st Busan International Film Festival has unveiled its full program, with 316 films set to screen during the 10-day event in October.
BIFF announced Monday that 247 officially selected films from 59 countries will be presented this year, six more than in 2025 and the festival’s largest official selection since 2019.
One of the major additions is a special focus on animation. The festival will screen 13 feature-length and short animated films, while its Midnight Passion program will introduce a new βAll Night Animationβ section featuring three films.
Japanese animation director Rintaro, known for works including Galaxy Express 999: The Movie, is also scheduled to visit Busan. Forum BIFF will hold discussions examining the future of the Asian animation industry.
The festival’s competition section, introduced last year, returns with 14 films competing for awards. The lineup includes Korean films Taeju on That Day and The Long Night, alongside international titles including My Mother and Satoko Is Always.
BIFF is also expanding screening opportunities this year. The festival will begin on a Tuesday rather than its traditional Wednesday opening, while five screenings per day will be scheduled from Thursday through Sunday instead of four.
The 31st BIFF runs October 6 to 15 at the Busan Cinema Center and other venues.
Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies, Open Cinema, Midnight Passion and Community BIFF go on sale September 17 at 2 p.m.
General screenings, master classes and Cine Classes will be available from September 21 at 2 p.m.
