Classical Busan will present a concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello at Busan Concert Hall on October 10 and 11 at 5 p.m.
Produced by Classical Busan to mark the first anniversary of the concert hall’s opening, the performances will feature an international cast led by world-renowned conductor Myung-Whun Chung, the organization’s artistic director.
Based on Shakespeare’s tragedy, Otello is widely regarded as one of Verdi’s greatest operas, exploring themes of love, jealousy, betrayal, and suspicion through some of the composer’s most dramatic music.
The title role will be performed by American tenor Gregory Kunde, internationally recognized for his interpretation of Otello and appearances at leading opera houses including the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House in London, and Paris National Opera.
Serbian baritone Željko Lučić, who has performed at venues including the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala, will sing the role of Iago.
Korean soprano Son Ji-hye will appear as Desdemona, joined by Busan-born mezzo-soprano Sabina Kim, bass-baritone Lee Joon-oh, tenors Hwang Jun-ho and Kim Jae-il, and bass Kim Cheol-jun.
The performance will feature the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, along with the Classical Busan Choir, Neu Opera Chorus, and the Haeundae Children’s Choir, bringing together both international artists and local performing groups.
Classical Busan said the production continues its efforts to develop original opera productions in the city ahead of the opening of the Busan Opera House in 2027.
Member ticket pre-sales begin at 2 p.m. on August 18, followed by general ticket sales at 2 p.m. on August 19 through the Classical Busan website and Nol Ticket.
