The Busan Museum of Art has reopened following an extensive two-year renovation that significantly changed its exhibition spaces, visitor facilities and outdoor areas.
The museum welcomed visitors back on September 17 after completing a 46.9 billion won renovation project. Improvements include upgraded temperature and humidity control systems, expanded storage facilities, redesigned galleries, a new main entrance, additional visitor spaces including a cafe, and a rebuilt outdoor sculpture park.
Four exhibitions opened alongside the renovated museum.
Future Museology brings together nine museums from Korea and abroad to explore how museums are changing their roles in society, while Yet We Are Still on the High Waves of This Sea: 1945β1953 examines Korean society and art from liberation through the Korean War. The latter features more than 260 artworks and 460 archival materials.
To All the Museums of Yesterday looks back at the history of the Busan Museum of Art and its relationship with the city’s art community.
A fourth exhibition, Secure Base, is designed for children and combines art, play and sensory experiences while exploring relationships with both human and non-human environments.
The museum originally opened in 1998 and had organized around 330 exhibitions before closing for the renovation.
