The Busan National Gugak Center has started offering Gukak classes for foreigners residing in the city.
The Gukak class is a Korean traditional cultural experience program for foreign tourists, students, etc., aimed at helping them understand Korean culture. Applicants are able to select a class from among a variety of subjects including Korean folk songs, pansori, Ganggangsullae (circle dance) and Janggu (Korean traditional hourglass drum). This program has been running since 2014 to promote traditional Korean music overseas and 164 foreigners have taken the classes.
The program will offer hands-on lessons delivered by professional gugak artists from the center. Instruments will be provided for the class.
The class is available for groups of over 10 foreigners who are interested in Gukak.
Please call 051) 811-0046 (Busan National Gugak Center) to register. Applications must be received three weeks before the start of class. Classes will be offered only in Korean and the class fee is 150,000 won per class/per hour.
