Busan’s “Buk-gu” District to be Renamed

Buk-gu district of Busan will begin the process of changing its region name to a different one that goes well with its local characteristics.

The office of the district said that it has set aside a budget of 110 million won for the project to change its name and renew its old image.

For the project, the district will start working on the basic research, public debate with residents of the district, signature campaigns, and others.

An official of the district said that the name Buk-gu was named after the location of the region but as it is no longer in the northern part of the city, the district has decided to change the name.

The city administers the district which encompasses Gupo, Deokcheon, Mandeok, Geumgok and Hwamyeong.

It became a district in 1978.
