Busan’s Plan to Host 2030 World Expo Progressing

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy reported on a plan to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan during a weekly cabinet meeting held in the port city Tuesday and presided over by President Moon Jae-in.

According to the plan, the 2030 Busan World Expo will be held from May to November of 2030 at the North Port in Busan with about 50.5 million expected visitors.

If Busan wins its bid to host the 12th Expo, it would be the 4th to be held in Asia and also the country’s first “registered exhibition”, much larger than the previous “recognized exhibitions” that took place in Yeosu and Daejeon.

The Ministry said, by hosting the Busan World Expo, the country will increase its status as a smart innovative powerhouse while also using the expo as an opportunity to promote economic development in the southeast region and balanced regional development in the country.
