Changwon Sculpture Biennale Turns the City Into a Giant Exhibition Space

The 2026 Changwon Sculpture Biennale opened September 30, bringing more than 200 works of sculpture and media art to locations across Changwon through November 15.

Now in its eighth edition, Korea’s only international art festival dedicated specifically to sculpture will feature 81 artists from 74 teams under the theme β€œResonance Field.”

This year marks the first time the biennale has appointed Korean and Chinese co-artistic directors, with Cho Hye-jung and Zhang Jun overseeing the event.

Rather than concentrating the exhibition in a single venue, organizers are expanding it throughout Masan, Changwon and Jinhae. Works will be displayed at Seongsan Art Hall, Changwon House and the Changwon History and Folk Museum, as well as around Jinhae Station and Masan Fish Market.

Participating artists include Pedro Reyes, Kim Yun-shin, Kimsooja, Shim Moon-seup and Ding Yi, alongside 11 artists from Changwon and the wider Gyeongnam region.

The 47-day event will also include academic and public programs. An international sculpture conference will take place at Seongsan Art Hall on October 1, bringing together figures associated with major international events including the Liverpool Biennial and Skulptur Projekte MΓΌnster.

Public programs include multilingual audio guides created with local multicultural residents and international students in seven languages, hands-on workshops for adults and children, and a β€œResonance Store” program connecting exhibition sites with nearby businesses.
