Busan has finalized the design for the temporary baseball stadium that will be used during the reconstruction of Sajik Baseball Stadium, transforming the Busan Asiad Main Stadium into a large-capacity venue capable of hosting more than 30,000 fans during postseason games.
The city announced that a proposal submitted by Sangji Engineering was selected as the winning design following a public competition.
The plan makes use of the existing stadium structure while adding 1,920 new seats, bringing total capacity to 23,359 seats, similar to the current capacity of Sajik Baseball Stadium.
For postseason games, flexible outfield seating can increase capacity to as many as 30,656 spectators.
Several fan-focused seating areas are included in the design. An 876-seat “Exciting Zone” will be installed close to the infield, offering some of the nearest views of the action.
A 143-seat “Culture Park” featuring grass seating and camping-style areas will be created beyond the outfield fence, providing a more relaxed atmosphere for families and groups.
The field itself will be redesigned to meet official KBO standards. The distance from home plate to the left and right field fences will be increased from 95.8 meters to 97.534 meters, creating a more pitcher-friendly ballpark. Adjustable outfield fences will also be installed, allowing configurations to be modified based on team strategy.
The project will also address long-standing facility limitations at Sajik Stadium.
Dedicated outdoor bullpen areas will be created, along with indoor bullpen facilities that can also be used for batting practice.
Additional training rooms and coaching facilities will be built near player areas, while separate routes for home and visiting teams will improve safety and crowd management.
Busan plans to sign a formal contract with Sangji Engineering this month and complete the final design by February next year.
Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2027, with completion targeted no later than January 2028.
