Eat Like a Local: A Quiet Japanese-Style Comfort Spot at Millac the Market

Millac the Market in Gwangan has no shortage of flashy food stalls, but Ryoko — a small, wood-framed counter restaurant tucked among the neon signs — feels a little different.

The name means “journey” in Japanese, and the concept fits: the space is calm, minimal, and almost feels like you’ve stepped into a small neighborhood eatery somewhere in Osaka rather than a busy Busan food hall.

The menu is short and focused, built around a few Japanese-style comfort dishes.

The signature pork katsu set (14,000 won) comes sliced thick with a crisp, golden coating and a surprisingly tender interior — still slightly pink in the center, the way many modern katsu places serve it.

It arrives with shredded cabbage, rice, miso soup, and a mild curry-style dipping sauce. It isn’t heavy or overly seasoned; instead, the flavor leans clean and pork-forward, which works well if you prefer restrained, simple cooking over big salty sauces.

Other mains include a tomato-based “Ryoko Rice” dish (13,500 won), curry-rice (13,000 won), and a spicy seafood yaki-udon-style noodle bowl at 13,500 won.

Portions are reasonable rather than oversized, which matches the atmosphere which is quiet, tidy, and clearly aimed at diners who want a slower meal rather than a quick food-court bite.

Side dishes like shrimp tempura (4,500 won for two pieces) and basic drinks and beer round out the menu.

Prices sit in the mid-range for Busan food-hall dining, and while the food isn’t flashy, it feels carefully made.

The light wood tables, open kitchen, and low-key layout make it easy to settle in for a relaxed lunch or dinner between shopping or a stroll along the waterfront.

Ryoko won’t be the loudest or busiest stall in Millac the Market, but if you’re in the mood for a simple katsu plate and a quiet corner, it’s an easy place to remember.
