Gupo Naru (dock), a gateway for peddlers in olden times, is now home to a festival packed with programs inspired by the area’s rich history.
The Gupo Naru Festival, held May 19 to 21 around the dock area in Hwamyeong Ecological Park in Buk-gu (district), offers about 40 programs this year under the theme of “River Dock Wheat Fields.”
A parade reproduces old images of market merchants going in and out of Gupo Naru. There is also a reenactment of a “Dragon King Ceremony” (ritual for safe travel by sea) with a Nakdonggang River-themed musical and song contest for those brave souls willing and waiting to get on stage. Other programs at this event include noodle making and sampling, raft-riding, boating and a handicrafts display.
How to get there: Sujeong Station (Metro line 2), exit 3. You can see the park’s entrance straight ahead.
