Gyeongnam Province will increase intercity bus services and introduce temporary detours as part of special transportation measures for the Chuseok holiday period.
The measures will run from August 31 through September 27, with additional transportation capacity, safety inspections and traffic management planned across the province.
During the holiday period, 13 intercity bus operators will increase service on 68 routes by a combined 264 trips.
Another 86 routes will use alternative routes to avoid areas that regularly experience heavy congestion, while additional buses may be deployed depending on passenger demand.
Cities and counties may also extend operating hours or increase local bus services, improve connections with KTX and SRT stations and temporarily lift restrictions on taxi operations.
Ahead of the holiday, Gyeongnam and its 18 cities and counties will inspect bus terminals and public transportation vehicles through September 16.
Checks will cover fire and electrical systems, seat belts, tires, ventilation systems, fire extinguishers and emergency hammers.
Authorities will also increase enforcement around train stations and bus terminals, including checks for taxi drivers refusing passengers, excessive fares and illegal parking.
Traffic control centers will operate during the holiday to monitor roads and public transportation. Real-time congestion and detour information will also be provided through electronic road signs and TBN Gyeongnam Traffic Broadcasting.
A separate traffic safety campaign focusing on seat belt use and preventing drowsy and drunk driving will be held September 23 at the Jinyeong Service Area in the Suncheon direction.
