Busan Yeongdo police have arrested a man in his 50s and booked 17 others for illegally smuggling and distributing whale meat from Japan.
The suspects are accused of smuggling 2,000 kg of whale meat from Japan over 216 attempts estimated to worth about 300 million won from last April.
The police found a secret warehouse where they have been storing the meat distributing it to various whale meat restaurants and Japanese eateries.
