Latest Update on Typhoon Danas


BUSAN, South Korea — Typhoon Danas possesses a central pressure of 960 hectopascals, a maximum wind speed of 40 meters per second and is moving toward north, closer to the country. Many organizations are preparing emergency measures to prevent accidents. 

Busan is expecting direct impact from Danas, and rains with more than 30 mm per hour is expected with strong winds. Danas is forecast to hit near the eastern coastal areas of Busan around 9pm. 

Danas is currently passing between Japan and South Korea as bands of heavy rainfall have already spread over southern Japan and the southern tier of South Korea. These areas can get upwards of 150 mm (6 inches) of rainfall before the storm departs to the northeast according to Accuweather.com.

Multiple ship entrances and departures at the Busan port were canceled this morning and many of the flights from Gimhae International Airport are expected to be canceled due to the storm. 

The organizing committee of BIFF decided to take away temporary structures including the outdoor stage set up in Busan Haeundae Beach and to rebuild them after the typhoon. 

The Busan Sea Art Festival which was scheduled to be closed on 13th, ended yesterday six days earlier than scheduled, worried about potential damages from the typhoon.
