The National Maritime Museum in Busan has opened a new large-scale media exhibition exploring maritime history, Arctic shipping routes and marine ecosystems.
The “BLUE UNIVERSE” exhibition, developed in cooperation with the Korea Ocean Business Corporation and ChildFund Korea, uses an 18-meter-wide, four-meter-high media wall in the museum’s first-floor lobby to present immersive digital content.
The exhibition features three main experiences.
“The World, Navigated” traces the history of maritime exploration and the development of merchant ships and shipping routes.
The cinematic presentation follows efforts to overcome geographic barriers and concludes with the Northern Sea Route, which is attracting attention as a potential future shipping corridor.
“The Road to the Arctic” adds an interactive element, allowing visitors to control Arctic animal avatars through their movements. Participants can wave, feed the animals and interact with an environment featuring Arctic ice and the aurora.
Multiple visitors can participate simultaneously, creating a virtual Arctic ecosystem on the screen.
A third installation, “Blue Heart, Mangrove,” is located in the museum’s third-floor Media Exhibition Room 2. It combines displays of live fish with immersive video to highlight the ecological importance of mangroves and the need to protect marine environments.
