Seoul’s popular outdoor library will return to Yeouido Hangang Park this fall, offering books, live performances, family activities and weekly themed programs along the river.
The fall edition of Reading Hangang Park will run every Saturday from September 12 through October 31 at Yeouido Hangang Park’s Multi Plaza. During the Chuseok holiday, the program will instead operate on Sunday, September 27.
The outdoor library will offer seating for up to 500 people, with reading benches, large picnic mats and quiet areas. Around 1,000 older books are being replaced, while new bestsellers are being added to the collection of approximately 6,000 books. Tactile books for young children and Braille books for visually impaired readers will also be introduced for the first time.
Each week will feature a different theme. Opening day on September 12 will include a fairy-tale-inspired “Fantasy Bookland,” puppet shows, activities, a magic show and evening performances.
Other highlights include sunset yoga on September 19, a Chuseok festival with traditional games and rice cake pounding on September 27, a Hangul-themed “Han Seok-bong Challenge” on October 10, an autumn jazz festival on October 17 and a book exchange on October 24.
Children can also enjoy inflatable play areas and ball pits, while craft programs will include traditional masks, pressed-flower bookmarks and other activities.
The fall season concludes October 31 with live music, musical theater, samulnori and magic performances.
