Ovantgarde Celebrates 8th Anniversary With Month-Long Concert Series

Ovantgarde, a cornerstone of the local music scene known for its independent curation near the Kyungsung/Pukyong University district in Busan, is proud to announce the Ovantgarde 8th Anniversary Series.

Under the sub-theme “Time goes on, Music goes on,” this series will encapsulate the past eight years like an hourglass, marking the beginning of a brand-new chapter for the venue.

Since opening its doors in 2018, Ovantgarde has hosted an annual anniversary series to introduce a diverse range of domestic and international musicians. Through its unique in-house planning, the venue has consistently worked to strengthen the self-sustainability of the local indie scene and provide audiences with a rich variety of live performances.

Running every weekend from May 1st to May 31st, the series features Busan’s representative acts such as Say Sue Me, Hathaway, Soumbalgwang, Seaweed Mustache, and Erotic Worms Exhibition. The lineup also includes powerhouse artists from Seoul and the Gyeongsang region, such as Lazybone, Gikuhasi, Hollow Jan, and Tokai. This series carries the message that the music we love never stops, especially in those moments when the breathing of the artists and the audience blends in the closest proximity.

The grand finale of the 8th anniversary will be a joint performance by Busan’s iconic band Say Sue Me and the symbols of Asian Emo/Math Rock, Chinese Football. This meeting—marking Chinese Football’s first visit to Korea in eight years—transcends local and national borders, creating a space where musicians and fans can support one another through music.

Beyond the main live shows, a lineup of special fringe events will complement the celebration. The festivities kick off on Saturday, April 25th, with a “Rock DJing Party” serving as the official pre-event. Starting at 9:00 PM, five prominent Rock DJs—including Funkin Cat, LIBO, and Linus, all renowned for their energetic sets at the Busan International Rock Festival’s official after-parties—will take the decks for a special curated night. Additionally, a special flea market titled “Ovantgarde Warehouse Sale” will be held on Children’s Day (May 5th), where musicians will participate as sellers to offer personal collectibles and official merchandise.
