With Busan’s first Pride festival set to take place this weekend, Haeundae police said they are readying for possible clashes between festival participants and anti-LGBT groups expected to also be in attendance.
The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. at Haeundae beach followed by a parade at 4 p.m. set to follow a path along adjacent streets before ending at Gunam-ro Culture Square.
About 40 LGBT and other civic groups have signed up to take part in the event while several groups that oppose homosexuality have also informed police of their plans to congregate starting at 1 p.m. at the square in front of the old Haeundae Train Station.
Police say they will be on high alert for physical confrontations between the two groups.
