The fall edition of Seoul Light DDP 2026 attracted around 700,000 visitors over 11 days, setting a new attendance record for the eventβs fall program and providing a boost to nighttime activity around Dongdaemun.
Held from September 3 to 13 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the media art festival drew an average of approximately 64,000 visitors per day. Organizers said evening crowds filled Oullim Square and surrounding areas, with many visitors continuing to nearby restaurants, cafes and shopping centers before and after the shows.
Data from Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station also showed increased nighttime traffic during the festival. Between 6 p.m. and midnight, subway entries and exits rose 15.1% compared with the same period the previous month. Between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., the increase reached 21.9%, while the 8 p.m. hour recorded a 26.8% jump.
The festival also recorded a 95% visitor satisfaction rate, according to an on-site survey.
A major feature this year was the use of real-time responsive media art across DDP’s 222-meter exterior facade, which was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2025 as the world’s largest amorphous architectural 3D projection-mapped display.
Rather than relying entirely on pre-rendered visuals, performances incorporated graphics that changed in real time alongside live music, lasers, lighting and sound. Works inspired by Korean artists Nam June Paik and Yoo Young-kuk, as well as the historic Korean poetry collection Cheonggu Yeongeon, were among the featured presentations.
Organizers also expanded the event beyond media art with craft beer pop-ups, a K-food zone and picnic areas designed to encourage visitors to spend more time at DDP and the surrounding Dongdaemun district.
The Seoul Design Foundation plans to continue developing DDP as a year-round nighttime destination through DDP 365 Light, a permanent media art program featuring approximately five-minute shows every night on the hour and half-hour.
The next major seasonal program, Seoul Light DDP 2026 Winter, is scheduled to begin December 17, followed by a New Year’s Eve countdown on December 31.
