Due to the influence of the season’s 8th typhoon, Francisco, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, a typhoon watch has been issued in Busan region.
Francisco is approaching waters 70 kilometers south of Busan with the center of the typhoon is expected to reach Geoje at 8 p.m. and Busan by 9 p.m.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the approaching typhoon is classified as “small” and has already lost a lot of its strength.
The central air pressure is 996hPa, the maximum wind speed is 82km per hour, and the strong wind radius is 80km.
Up to 200mm of rain is possible in locations around the region and is expected to abate by morning.
44 international flights and 36 domestic flights have been canceled or delayed at Gimhae International Airport as of 3 p.m.and Busan Port has closed as well.
Typhoon Watch in Effect
A typhoon watch has been issued by the Ministry of Interior and Safety to the eastern coastal waters of Geoje city, southern coastal waters of the central region of South Gyeongsang province, southern coastal waters west of South Gyeongsang province, coastal waters of Busan, and coastal waters of Ulsan, as well as in-land regions of Busan city, Tongyeong, Geoje, Namhae county, and Ulsan.
The watch has taken effect as of 3 pm today.
Residents and officials of apartments and buildings are advised to firmly close all doors, and secure or remove any hanging signboards from falling.
Vehicles parked on low laying grounds and by the waterfronts are advised to be relocated to safety zones, and all ships and vessels are banned from leaving the docks, berths, or ports.
Anyone in the coastal areas, flood-prone areas, and valleys are advised to evacuate to a safer place.
