the best of what's happening — quick looks and longer stories

CNN Travel recently asked whether Busan is the world’s next great creative city.

I read the whole article as someone who has lived here for almost thirty years, and went through what they got right, what needs more context, and what the article leaves out.

In this video:

What CNN got right about Busan, from the Seoul comparison to the opera house

The Gimhae Airport milestone, which hit again on October 22

Where the article needs context: the weather, the KTX time, Lotte Tower and the second airport

Why “Busan is Los Angeles” doesn’t fit, and which city I think is a closer match

The part the article barely covers: Busan’s actual creative scene

THINGS MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO

Gimhae Airport passed 10 million international passengers on October 22, nearly three months earlier than in 2025, with a target of 12 million by the end of 2026

Busan Opera House (Snøhetta): scheduled to open in 2027 on the North Port waterfront

Busan Lotte Town Tower: construction paused in 2013, resumed in 2023, completion estimated around 2028

Gadeokdo Airport: opening pushed from 2029 to 2035

Which city would you compare Busan to? Leave it in the comments.
