South Coast Cup Yacht Race Begins

The 2026 South Coast Cup International Yacht Race will take place from September 3 to 6, bringing competitors from eight countries to waters between Yeosu, Tongyeong and Busan.

Now in its seventh year, the event will feature 85 cruiser and dinghy yachts and around 300 sailors and officials. The competition is jointly organized by Gyeongnam, Jeonnam and Busan as part of efforts to develop marine leisure tourism along Korea’s southern coast.

Following registration and boat inspections on September 3, racing begins September 4 with a short coastal course off Yeosu. The opening ceremony will also be held that day at Ungcheon Marina.

The main offshore race takes place September 5, with competitors sailing from Yeosu to Donam Port in Tongyeong.

On September 6, ORC I competitors will continue from Tongyeong to Suyeong Bay in Busan, while the ORC II division will compete in a shorter coastal race in the waters around Hansan, Tongyeong.

A youth single-person dinghy competition will also be held at Donam Port on September 5 and 6.

Additional activities around the Tongyeong Marine Sports Center will include paddleboarding, dinghy sailing, open-boat and RC yacht experiences, along with children’s activities, performances and a stamp tour.
