Safety Concerns at Seoullo 7017 After Foreigner Leaps to his Death

Safety measures at Seoul’s newest tourist attraction, Seoullo 7017, are causing a concern after a Kazakhstani man jumped to his death on Monday.

The 30-year-old man climbed over a 1.4-meter barrier at a nearby point in front of Seoul Station at 11:50 p.m. Monday night and jumped to his death according to the Yonhap News.

According to Yonhap, the walkway crossing over to Seoul Station has a high wire mesh which is impossible to jump from, but other sections have only the 1.4 meter transparent barrier.

The barrier was also a concern for the city of Seoul when it was built as people looking to take photos with the large traffic backdrop has also caused concern.

Another concern of citizen’s is there is not enoughΒ securityΒ Β — only 16 people who work 12 hour shifts — patrolling the heavy tourist area.

The park, which opened just 11 days ago, has already seen over 800,000 visitors.
