Seoul has expanded the Jamsil Special Tourist Zone to include Songridan-gil, Bangi Market and the Bangi Matgol dining district, connecting some of the city’s major attractions with nearby neighborhood businesses.
The expansion increases the zone from 2.31 to 2.75 square kilometers.
Jamsil is already one of southeastern Seoul’s major tourism areas, home to Lotte World, Lotte World Tower, Seokchon Lake and Olympic Park.
The area attracted about 2.8 million international visitors in 2025.
The newly added areas offer a different side of the district. Songridan-gil has become popular for its independent cafes and restaurants, particularly among younger visitors, while Bangi Market offers traditional food and a more local market experience. Bangi Matgol is known for its concentration of restaurants.
Seoul plans to create walking routes linking the areas, improve connections with the city’s Ttareungi public bicycle system and expand multilingual menus and mobile payment options for international visitors.
The city also hopes the expansion will encourage visitors to stay in Jamsil later into the evening, combining visits to major attractions with dining and shopping in surrounding neighborhoods.
Local festivals and food events, including the Bangi Market Makgeolli Festival, are also expected to be incorporated into tourism programs.
