Gyeongnam Attractions Earn Strong Showing in Nationwide Tourism Vote

A total of 775 tourism attractions across Gyeongnam have been selected through a nationwide public vote aimed at uncovering notable travel destinations around Korea.

The selections were made through the Korea Attractions 100×100 Project, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization. Travel experts first recommended destinations before the public voted on attractions across 100 travel themes in eight categories.

Destinations from all 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam were represented. Food selections included Chungmu Gimbap in Tongyeong and Manggae-tteok in Uiryeong, while natural attractions included Sangnim Park in Hamyang, Sinseondae in Geoje and Boriam Temple in Namhae. Cultural sites such as Haeinsa Temple, Jinjuseong Fortress and Yeongnamnu Pavilion were also selected.

Several Gyeongnam destinations ranked first nationally in individual themes.

Eoreumgol Valley in Miryang topped the “natural air conditioner and valley” category, while Dongui Yakseongwan in Sancheong ranked first for vegan Korean cuisine.

Jeseokbong in Hamyang took the top spot in the “climb to the top of the stairs” theme, while Hamyang’s A Big Whale Swimming Through Jirisan ranked first in the “zero-waste road” category.

Gyeongnam plans to use the selections to promote lesser-known destinations and develop more tourism experiences encouraging visitors to stay longer in the region.
