Gyeongnam province is moving ahead with major rail service improvements aimed at cutting travel times to Busan and increasing high-speed train options to the Seoul metropolitan area.
Starting April 1, 2027, portions of the long-delayed Bujeon–Masan double-track railway will open between Masan Station and Gangseo Geumho Station, and between Sasang Station and Bujeon Station.
Shuttle buses and other transportation will connect passengers across the unfinished Gangseo Geumho–Sasang section.
The railway was originally scheduled to open in 2020 but was delayed following a ground collapse near the Nakdong River.
Once the entire route opens, travel between Masan and Busan’s Bujeon Station is expected to fall from around 90 minutes to approximately 30 minutes.
More immediate changes are coming September 1, when six additional daily high-speed train services will be added to the Gyeongjeon Line, providing up to 1,800 additional seats per day.
The last Seoul-bound train from Masan will also depart later, moving from 9:43 p.m. to 10:04 p.m.
Yangsan residents will gain new direct service from Mulgeum Station to Suseo Station, with two northbound and three southbound trains operating daily without requiring a transfer.
