The 17th Busan Mackerel Festival will bring a variety of seafood experiences, cooking programs and competitions to the Songdo area, celebrating one of the city’s best-known local fish.
The festival will feature activities ranging from mackerel-themed cooking experiences to kayaking, street dancing and family competitions.
One of the featured programs is a special culinary experience bringing together chefs Kim Seong-heon of Mirak Super and Jeon Ji-seong of L’Essence with students from Busan Tourism High School. Participants will have an opportunity to sample newly developed mackerel dishes.
Another program offers visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the Busan Cooperative Fish Market, including early-morning fishing and auction activities.
For those interested in outdoor activities, a kayaking challenge will send two-person teams onto the waters off Songdo to search for hidden mackerel-themed treasure boxes.
Competitions will include a cardboard boat race, an air rocket contest on Songdo Beach and a street dance competition featuring choreography, broadcast dance and breaking.
The Songdo Street Dance Competition is scheduled for October 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the festival’s special stage.
Advance registration for the listed activities has closed, and visitors should check the official festival website for information about any available on-site participation.
