Seoul Indie Band Sailor Honeymoon Announces Debut Album

Seoul-based indie trio Sailor Honeymoon will release their debut album, The Worst of Sailor Honeymoon, on August 14 through Good Good 굿굿 Records and [PIAS].

Ahead of the album’s release, the band will unveil its new single, “I Wanna Leave You,” on June 29.

Produced by Luke Smith, whose credits include Foals, Shura and Depeche Mode, the album was mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer and mastered by Katie Tavini.

The 13-track record builds on the band’s mix of indie rock, humor and candid songwriting while maintaining the DIY approach that has defined its sound.

Formed in Seoul through informal jam sessions between musicians from the city’s independent music scene, Sailor Honeymoon has spent the past three years building a following through live performances and festival appearances in Korea and Europe.

Rather than focusing on polished production, the band says the album embraces a more personal and human approach to songwriting.

Several tracks draw inspiration from life in Korea. “Extinction” examines the pressures of modern Korean society, while “Red” takes its name from the traditional Korean red ginseng candy before expanding into broader themes.

The band features vocalist and drummer Abi Raymaker, guitarist and vocalist Zaeeun Shin, and bassist Yelim Kim.

While K-pop dominates global perceptions of Korean music, Sailor Honeymoon represents a growing independent music scene built around small venues, collaboration and experimental songwriting. The band says its goal is not to represent Korea as a whole, but to offer another perspective on the country’s contemporary music culture.

The Worst of Sailor Honeymoon will be released on August 14.
