A computer equipment maintenance worker in Busan has been arrested for stealing personal photos and videos from teachers’ PCs and creating deepfake sexual images.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency said yesterday that a man in his 30s was sent to prosecutors for violating the Information and Communications Network Act.
Between 2021 and 2025, he accessed computers at 19 schools and copied over 220,000 files from 194 staff members. He stored them on a USB drive and created 20 deepfake videos.
Police said none of the deepfake materials were shared online, but the total data reached 405GB.
Authorities urged stronger school cybersecurity measures.
