ISB Board Chairperson Paul Edwards Recognized in UK New Year’s Honours List

The International School of Busan (ISB) is proud to announce that Mr. Paul Edwards, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, has been named in the New Year Honours List and awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) “For services to International Education, to Charity and to UK/South Korea relations.”

The MBE is a prestigious honour conferred by His Majesty King Charles III to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions in their fields or communities. It is among the United Kingdom’s most respected distinctions, highlighting exceptional service and dedication.

One hundred and four people have received awards for their exceptional service to the UK overseas or internationally in His Majesty The King’s New Year Honours List, including for contributions to British foreign policy and international development, as well as voluntary and charitable work around the world.

Edwards has served as the Chair of the ISB Board of Governors since 2019, dedicating countless hours to supporting the school and its community on a voluntary basis. Under his leadership, ISB has navigated significant challenges, including financial restructuring and the global COVID-19 pandemic.

His strategic guidance has secured the school’s financial stability, enhanced its academic success, and led to significant improvements in campus facilities, ensuring a world-class educational environment for its diverse, international community.

Beyond his role at ISB, Paul has made remarkable contributions to the British community in Korea. As the CEO of Gorilla Brewing Company and an active member of organizations such as the British Chamber of Commerce Korea and the Korea Britain Society, Paul has worked tirelessly to foster cultural exchange, strengthen UK-South Korea relations, and support numerous charitable initiatives.

“Paul Edwards exemplifies true leadership and community service. His unwavering commitment to ISB, along with his impactful contributions to charitable causes and UK-South Korea relations, serve as a source of inspiration,” ISB Head of School, Simon McCloskey said.

Paul approaches his work with humility, never seeking the spotlight or recognition. He is measured, calm, and steadfastly supportive of our school community and its continued growth and development—qualities that make this prestigious honour all the more fitting”.

As ISB continues to thrive, we celebrate this well-deserved recognition of Paul Edwards’ exceptional contributions. The entire school community extends its congratulations and gratitude for his dedication and leadership.
